The KS3 course |
The new Key Stage
3 curriculum for year 7 means we use sport as a tool for delivering key
processes, rather than simply teaching students to be good at individual
sports. These processes are evaluating, promoting healthy lifestyles,
outwitting opponents, learning new skills and developing physical and mental
capacity. This affects assessment data, as your child may be a gifted
footballer, however if the process being assessed is evaluating then they may
have a different score. This form of assessment produces a well- rounded
sportsperson, rather than someone who is good at one sport.
Each scheme of
work is broken into units over eight lessons, with lessons four and eight as
assessment lessons. These schemes of work cover gymnastic activities,
invasion games, striking and fielding games, athletics and outdoor
activities.
In lessons students
will be asked to take many different roles such as performing, coaching,
officiating, being a leader and evaluating their own and others’
performances. |

Suggested, books, TV programmes or web
sites which can help with class work or homework and any other relevant
information.

Students would
benefit from watching live sport on television to see how skills taught in
lessons can be applied to competition. It is also a great opportunity to
learn rules, watch expert performances and generate interest in different
sports. The internet is also a useful resource; the BBC sports’ academy http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/academy/default.stm site contains relevant news updates on
sports, but also has a skills’ section where skills are broken down so that
they can be learnt further at home. |
